Transport

The creation of "The Boulevard" allows Station Street to become much more pedestrian focused.

The inclusion of designated pedestrian and cycling paths in and around Caulfield Village is one of the many sustainable design initiatives within Caulfield Village. These initiatives will encourage pedestrian and cycling activity and the use of public transport.

Wide footpaths and open style fencing provide for a safer and vibrant neighbourhood. Caulfield Village will dramatically improve the overall "walk-ability" of the neighbourhood and encourage greater use of the public transport modes in and around the area.

Overall initiatives include:
  • a new pedestrian-oriented, shaded "High Street" style retail boulevard similar to Rathdowne Street, Carlton and Bay Street, Port Melbourne,
  • new pedestrian linkages between Kambrook Road and Bond Street, and Heywood Street and "The Boulevard",
  • redirection of vehicle traffic away from Station Street and Smith Street,
  • improved pedestrian access on Station Street and "The Boulevard" (tree planting, wider pavements and new plaza spaces),
  • dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths,
  • new open fencing to the Station Street perimeter of Caulfield Racecourse, and improved connectivity between the Caulfield Racecourse and Monash University through the pedestrian underpass.

Caulfield Village's design requirements include on-street, off-street and on site car parking which will provide adequate car parking for the Village.
